  • Into the Limelight

For the past couple of days, the TV at home has been set to display the latest news regarding the earthquake in Si Chuan. It's nice to know updated information, but some of the stuff they have on is just like omg please I don't need to see this sob fest. Am I insensitive? Perhaps... Plus I'm kinda sick of the anchor's voice :/

I had a convo last night about the entertainment industry and how it must suck to be seen all the time. But not at times like this. These people are doing SO MUCH in terms of financially supporting the victims and encouraging others to do the same. I usually chuckle at how Asians are cute and do inspirational collab mvs, but it really does say a lot more than "I'm sad for everyone there" [I'm not hating; it's a good answer].

And the one thing I really envy is their ability to make a difference in society. This goes far more beyond just setting fashion trends. In the video above, we can see a telefundraising event [it's a minute or so into the clip]. I was kinda disappointed at the mc because he totally made it sound like the main incentive to call in was to talk to the celebs [as opposed to giving money] but regardless, these people not only have mass amounts of dough to shell out but also the power to make people listen and act.

I guess it's unfair to expect this kinda of philanthropy and moral awesomeness out of public figures all the time, as they are also human. But their ability to inflict change makes me so envious... And me? It's not like I can donate my parents' money. But I can pray. I guess it's just hard to trust that God can move more powerfully than those celebs; his work usually doesn't come in the form of a big honkin check. So let's have faith. Faith that the same God who can move mountains will also restore this broken nation. And maybe I'll donate some blood in China this summer...
